Things to Keep in Mind when Trick-or-Treating with Grandkids

Family dressed up for Halloween

Halloween is almost upon us, and now is the time to start preparing, if you haven’t already! Get ready to have fun out on the town here in Conroe, TX, especially if you plan on going trick-or-treating with the kids or grandkids. Today we have ideas for things to keep in mind as you do!

Find a costume.

You definitely don’t have to dress up if you don’t want to, but it can be a great opportunity for you and your little ones to bond and have some fun together. Plus, you might just have a shot at winning a Halloween costume contest if you put in a bit of effort! We think these 35 awesome Halloween costumes for senior citizens is a great place to get ideas and inspiration from.

Set guidelines.

Now, when it comes to actually traversing your neighborhood, remember to set expectations with your little ones as to where you’re going to go and how long you’ll be out. Keep them close and go at a pace that works for all of you. If you choose to go farther distances and drive, just be aware of pedestrians at all places and drive more defensively than you might usually. Be sure to also have a method for staying in contact with each other in case you’re separated.

Follow the rules of the road.

Speaking of safety on the road, it’s not just drivers who should be defensive and avoid accidents or mishaps at all costs! Pedestrians also have the responsibility to remain aware of their surroundings and practice safety precautions. For example, walk with the flow of traffic on the right side of the road, on sidewalks whenever possible. Avoid cutting across lawns, and always cross roads at intersections and crosswalks. Wear reflective material on your costume or bring a flashlight with you so you can be seen at all times.
